London 2012 ?

There’s a lot of buzz going on amongst a lot of people about how Lanni and I should be on the team for London 2012. Here’s a few links:1. Brantford Expositor, “DuChene’s 2012 Olympic dream up to COC.”2. Letsrun. “Canadian Women in Rotterdam.”3. My Next Race.“Should the COC make an exception for DuChene and Marchant?”And here’s Athletics Canada’s 2012 Olympic …

Pleased, very pleased.

Hello from Rotterdam! What a great race. Although I did not make standard for 2012, I am quite pleased with my new pb time of 2:32:05 and 7th overall (7 min faster than my last one in Ottawa, 2:39:08). Going into this I knew I had a good shot if the weather was ideal. I gave it my all and …

Departure is tomorrow!

Well, tomorrow is my departure day and I am thrilled. Bags are packed and yes, I am READY to go! I’m so glad we booked a Wed-Tues trip; should give me lots of time to settle before, and relax after, the race. I look forward to meeting fellow Canadians, Lanni Marchant and Rob Watson, also going for that Olympic standard …

Taper Time!

Well, it’s that time…time to taper! Many struggle with this stage of the training. It’s hard to adjust to changes in your diet and mileage but it’s necessary. I finished an easy 100 km week and feel good. I’m getting some work (massage, etc) done on my leg (shin/calf) but it should be ok.Typically in the week leading up to …

(Photo: Kaz Novak, Hamilton Spectator).Today was the first slow day since all the buzz from the ATB race. Getting into a marathon last minute, to try to make the Olympic standard, is quite the experience yet consuming! My week couldn’t have ended any better; the news of Rotterdam, a steady 40 km long run w/ friends (total highest mileage of …

Rotterdam …. so exciting!

Well, much has happened in the past week. After last week’s 1:47:03 at Hamilton’s Around the Bay Race, coach Rick and I had one of those, “Are you thinking what I’m thinking?” conversations. And, after nearly a week of numerous phone calls and email messages with Athletics Canada and several marathon elite coordinators, I was accepted into the Rotterdam Marathon. …

Smiles and What’s Next?

Well, since Sunday’s breakthrough race, coach Rick and I have changed the spring plans. Because of my strong race and time, and so-far-so-great season of amazing training, 4/4 PR’s this year, marathon experience (I have done 7) and no injuries, we think a shot at the Cdn standard for London 2012 is worth a go. BUT, the hardest part is …

Around the Bay 30 km … wow!

(Josie Mannen photo)Well, I sure surprised myself today. The plan was to run 3:40/km (goal marathon pace)…I ended up averaging 3:34/km, which got me 1:47:03 (59 seconds from the course record) and first female overall. What a thrill!Dayna Pidhoresky raced today and I fully expected her to win. We ran the first 11 km or so together and I was …

Mixed Emotions

Pictures:1. A wonderful friend of mine, Marianne. We ran against each other in highschool and lived together while students at the University of Guelph. At one point we ran cross country together but full-time studies, playing hockey, and having a sick mom was too much for me.2. Seth is turning 4 this week. He just started hockey. Gotta love the …
