I believe the marathon is unlike any other sport in the summer olympics. There is a reason the games begin with the marathon and finish with the marathon. It is the one event that is not about winning, as every one crossing the finish line is applauded and cheered for their triumph and the colors of their country. Canada should be proud to have two great runners with the maple leaf all over the streets of London, and maybe it will encourage a few young girls to run as well as they may see themselves in you. In this new running boom, the marathon has become a sport that the everyday person can relate to, and it is positive motivation to know that Canadians are running with the best in the world.
